Minnesota United: End Your Contract With SPPD

George Floyd left this world four weeks ago today. The Red Loons join in the grief, outrage, and thirst for action that have followed his torture and murder by police.

The Minneapolis and Saint Paul Police Departments share a long and sordid history of violence and harassment of Black, Brown, and Native people. When confronted with peaceful demonstrations against their violent record, the SPPD joined MPD in shooting, gassing, beating, and arresting protesters, including many of our own members.

This past month has shown that, far from keeping the peace, police threaten the safety and peace of mind of those around them. We and many others do not feel safe with police at our backs. They do not belong at Allianz Field.

If Minnesota United truly believes that Black Lives Matter, they will follow the lead of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Public Schools, Minneapolis Parks & Recreation, the Walker Arts Center, First Avenue, and many other organizations and end their contract with the Saint Paul Police Department.

See you in the stands.
